The Origin

Beginnings
Sant Sadurní d’Anoia is located in Penedès, a region with a long tradition in vineyard cultivation and wine production. The importance of viticulture in Penedès was consolidated in the 19th century, in a period of expansion that led to the planting of vineyards.
This winemaking tradition took a significant leap in the 1870s when several local landowners began applying the Champagne method of wine production. This marked the birth of the relationship between cava and Sant Sadurní.

Phylloxera
From 1878 onwards, cava had to overcome the crisis caused by the arrival of phylloxera in the town, which forced the removal of all vines and their replanting with American rootstocks, onto which the traditional grape varieties of Penedès were grafted.
Since 1981, this episode in Sant Sadurní’s history has been commemorated every year on September 8th with the Phylloxera Festival.

History
Throughout the 19th century, numerous companies dedicated to cava production appeared in Sant Sadurní. Among these, Torre-Blanca wineries, the home of the Ventura family, stand out.
With the arrival of the new millennium, brothers Jaume and Xavier Ventura created in the heart of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia Llàgrima d’Or cava, a new adventure full of the same courage and excitement as many others from the mid-19th century ancestors.
